The Greater Fort Worth Herb Society was founded in 1985 with the purpose of "sharing knowledge of herbal folklore, planting, growing, propagating, cultivating, harvesting and using herbs." A further goal is the fostering of education and knowledge regarding herbs and other botanical subjects.

As a service to the community, the Herb Society plants and maintains a Herb Garden at the Log Cabin Village. The garden contains herbs from the period of settlement as well as more modern species since the garden is used as a teaching garden by BRIT to instruct children and adults.

Each year in May, the Herb Society hosts a Herb Festival. In 2008, the plan is to hold the festival on Saturday, May 17, at the Ft. Worth Botanic Garden Center.
